I was sorely disappointed with this performance of The Bends.
There were too few trapeze performances for me, and overall very few performances by women. The flexibility of the Asian duo was amazing, and the hoola hoop performer extraordinary. Yet the whole show left me wanting and waiting for more.
Before the show, my 10 year old daughter was so excited when I disclosed to her that I purchased "Floor seats" (at the prices of $98 and $78 each). However, after the show, she remarked (unsolicited) “this was not as good as the other show(s)…, and why didn’t the clowns run down the aisles as they did at the last performance. “
In terms of souvenirs’, the CD’s were sold out days prior. The available souvenirs were of poor quality and sparked very little interest. Tee shirt selection was again disappointing. Last year at “Kooza,” we bought several quality key chains, a mug and a quality facemask (for display).
The show had very little audience involvement compared to other CDS performances. I enjoyed the clown sequences very much as they were very entertaining. However, I felt there were too many and not enough of the events that I feel embody "Cirque Du Soleil.
The whole show lacked a central theme. Whom was the woman singing throughout the performance? What was her connection to the central theme? After the finale, I found myself wondering…is that all there is? Surely, it cannot be over. There was no sparkle in the performers’ eyes at the end. They appeared tired.
I left the center feeling let down in summary. If I thought it were worth the effort, I would ask for a refund or tickets to another show to give The Bends a chance to redeem itself in my eyes. However, I feel the likelihood of that happening is slim.
Please review your program and continue to provide us with the quality Cirque Du Soleil performances we know and love.
